Our Reuse and Recycling Events have now kept over 107,000 kilograms out of landfill since their launch in 2023.

Each of these drive-through, drop-off events offer you a convenient way to donate your pre-loved items from bicycles and clothing to electronics and nursery items so they can be reused, resold, repaired and recycled.

The most recent event at the Warringah Aquatic Centre Car Park was the largest collaborative event yet, with 7 participating charity, social enterprise and reuse organisation partners and more than 30 attending volunteers and staff. But it was the local legends who dropped off an astounding 432 carloads of donations, equating to 13,000 kilograms of waste diverted from landfill, that made this event such a success.

Donated items collected have provided vital resources to our participating partners helping to support vulnerable communities across Sydney and overseas.

Collected items are put to good use

  • Nursery items are rehomed to families in need across Sydney.
  • Clothing and homewares are resold through charity op shops, funding support programs for children in Australia and around the world.
  • Bikes, electronics, metals and plant pots are repaired or recycled. Some kids' bikes are donated locally and in Central Australia to children who would otherwise have no access to bikes.
  • Fabric remnants and sewing accessories support community sewing projects for hospitals, wildlife rescue centres, children’s hospitals and children’s charities.
  • Toys are repaired and donated to kids in need around the world.

In addition to supporting charities and social enterprises, earlier in the year, we also began collecting quality items at these events such as camping gear, kitchen appliances, party equipment, sewing machines, tools and home/garden maintenance equipment to establish the Northern Beaches Library of Things.

This is a community resource offering short-term loans of useful but rarely needed items to the Sydney Library of Things, which is located at Cromer Community Centre and open on Saturdays 9am to 12pm.

Our Reuse and Recycling Events recently received the Partnerships and Collaboration Award at the 2025 NSW Local Government Professional Awards, a true testament to the power of community and collaboration.

The next Reuse and Recycling Event will be held on Saturday 8 November. See event details.
