National Volunteer Week is an annual celebration that acknowledges and celebrates the contribution of volunteers. Therefore, we would like to thank all of our wonderful volunteers for the time, effort and skills they have given to our library services and community over the past year.
The commitment of our volunteers across the organisation has allowed us to increase quality services to customers, provide new community opportunities and engage libraries as a space for leisure and learning. Here is a snapshot of the valuable contribution our volunteers have made over the past year.
There are currently 192 volunteers at Northern Beaches Libraries.
This includes the 92 Duke of Edinburgh student volunteers who have been assisting branches since July 2019, with 23 of those students involved in our Drop-In Technology program.
We have 45 Justices of the Peace across the six branches.
Since July 2019, 6, 121 customers were served and 20, 707 documents were signed.
There are 49 Home Library Service volunteers who not only select items for our clients but also assist in delivering to those who cannot access the library independently.
Since July 2019, 23, 695 items have been issued and delivered to clients.
We also have volunteers who assist with our Library programs. Since July 2019, 276 children have attended the volunteer - facilitated Lego Clubs and 91 one-on-one sessions for technology help have been booked.
Twelve sessions of volunteer - facilitated Reading Groups have also been hosted since October 2019, with 48 different books read. Our new Dungeons and Dragons workshops have also been popular with 44 youth attending since the workshops began in November 2019.
Thousands of library items were shelved by our Shelving Assistant volunteers. These items were also processed by our Collection Maintenance Assistant volunteers.
Our Family History Fridays wouldn't be possible without our volunteers. There have been 189 sessions booked with them since July 2019.
Local Studies volunteers have also processed thousands of materials which includes cataloguing collections, preserving photographs, filing all Manly Daily cuttings and researching over 80 biographies of people buried in Manly cemeteries.
