Walking and cycling will be made easier with an injection of funding from the NSW Government.

Northern Beaches Council has received $1.8 million as part of the Get NSW Active Program.

The focus of the funding is to strengthen active transport in the community, making it easier for people to get from A to B, in a way that doesn’t always involve them getting in their cars.

Council will deliver three key footpaths/shared paths that will help residents and visitors move around more safely.

The projects that have been funded include:

• $971,000 for a new footpath, kerbs, gutters and drainage along the eastern side of Barrenjoey Road, North Avalon between Careel Head Road and Currawong Avenue.
• $369,000 for a new footpath on the northern side of Turimetta Street, Mona Vale to complete the missing connection between Mona Vale Police Station and George Mockler House, a strategic walking connection to Mona Vale, schools and the B-Line.
• $501,000 for the final stage of the Addiscombe Road Shared Path Network, connecting with Kenneth Road, Manly Boy Charlton Pool, and the broader Manly area. This includes a pedestrian safety upgrade at Addiscombe and Kenneth Road intersection.

The funding forms part of the third and final tranche of the 2022 Get NSW Active program that will see $77 million in funding for 161 projects across 45 councils.
