The sunny days are set to continue! And while many of us are loving these warmer conditions here's your reminders to help you and those around you stay cool and safe:
- Stay hydrated, even if you're not thirsty it's important to keep up your fluids.
- Please check on the welfare of older people.
- Keep the sun out by shading windows with curtains, blinds or closing shutters.
- Keep windows closed during the day until it cools down and in the early morning.
Check on your pets and make sure you keep them cool.
They should always have plenty to drink. You can also leave ice cubes out for them to stay cool. Ensure your pets always have access to the shade or indoors, and avoid walking them during the hottest part of the day (midday).
- If you don’t have an air-conditioner, try to spend time in an air-conditioned place like a shopping centre, aquatic centre, library, museum or cinema.
- When outdoors, stay protected from the sun by wearing a hat and sunscreen.
- It's an offence for children, the elderly and pets to be left unattended in cars - it can be deadly
- Our precious local wildlife feel the heat too!
You can help by leaving plenty of water bowls out and reporting any distressed animals to WIRES or Sydney Wildlife.
Remember, the threat of bushfire is high in summer. Check out our Bushfire Survival Planning page on what you can do to prepare.
