This week children are celebrating their people and place in our early learning centres.
As part of Early Learning Matters Week, this year's theme 'Learning through connection' underscores the significance of community and place and its importance for healthy development in young children.
At our nine early learning centres on the Northern Beaches, children have ample opportunity to get involved and connect in their local community. Some of the great activities include learning about sustainability with the Mind Café coffee bean collection and Kimbriki Resource and Recycling Centre, being educated about connection to Country with ongoing visits from Indigenous elders and artists, connecting with local aged care residents in intergenerational programs such as Harbour View Children’s Centre and BUPA Seaforth and fundraising for the Children’s Hospital and World Pride activities.
Children’s brains develop faster in the first five years of their life that at any other time, with 90% of brain development occurring during these early years which has lasting impacts on a child’s ability to learn.
Our educators understand just how crucial these first five years are and are passionate about creating rich learning and play opportunities for all children in their care.
As part of the week, children and educators at Narrabeen Children’s Centre will hold a special morning tea, with guest appearances from the Mayor and councillors.
Organised by Early Childhood Australia, Early Learning Matters Week runs 24 – 28 July 2023.
