Council is committed to encouraging people to walk or cycle as part of their everyday travel.
That’s why we welcomed a recent NSW Government announcement pledging $5.6 million to help fund new walking and cycling paths.
Council will receive $3.9 million for a pedestrian and cyclist bridge along Pittwater Road over Manly Creek and $1.7 million for the construction of a footpath through a section of the Mona Vale Strategic Centre.
The paths will improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists, particularly along busy Pittwater Road.
The funding was provided through Transport NSW’s Get NSW Active program which will provide $39.5 million to 50 councils to deliver projects that will encourage walking and bike riding.
Active transport such as cycling is great for the environment, community health and takes the pressure off our very busy roads in the Northern Beaches.
The NSW Government said it was pleased to provide the funding to assist in beginning construction of these important paths.
Work is scheduled to begin in the 2023/2024 financial year.
