Restoration works will take place at South Creek to improve the biodiversity, ecological value, bank and bed stability, water quality and connectivity of one of the Northern Beaches major creek systems.
Thanks to $1.68 million grant from the Australian Government, the 3-year project will see improvements to 8 sites, or 4.6 kilometres including wetland areas and threatened ecological communities.
Approximately 150 metres of creek line will undergo bank and bed stabilisation works to protect natural and built assets and prevent bank loss.
In addition, wetland connectivity and water quality improvement will restore connectivity to 2.1 hectares of wetland.
Since so many native plants and animals depend on rivers, creeks, wetlands, and estuaries, it’s vital to protect and restore these waterways.
The $1.68 million grant will provide significant benefit to native wildlife and the community alike, as well as enhancing the quality of this space we all cherish for future generations.
This project is funded by the Australian Government’s Natural Heritage Trust under the Urban Rivers and Catchments Program, with the support of Northern Beaches Council.
