Are you a local business interested in learning from experts on how better to recruit and retain staff?
Council is hosting a recruitment and retention seminar as part of Small Business Month, featuring key industry experts to support local businesses to ‘Grow a strong team for growth’ on Wednesday 11 October, 6 – 8.30pm, Tramshed, Narrabeen.
We spoke to local business owner Trev Love of Surfside Motorcycles, Brookvale to find out why he is keen to join the local event.
We’d love to hear more about your recruitment experience, your challenges and why this event will be useful?
I do like to recruit locally, although sometimes it can be challenging to find the right skills and expertise.
It’s always preferable having someone living locally; having them close and not having them commute long hours. So any tips here will be extremely useful.
How do you think this event can help you?
I am not big enough to have in-house HR support and so everything I know about recruitment and staffing issues is learned by muddling through and research really.
Having access to some experts and making sure I am up to date with the latest legislation would be really useful and will give me peace of mind that I am doing the right thing.
It would help to ensure I am an attractive employment option! I have always recruited through word of mouth and have never used a recruitment agency, so meeting some and understanding a bit more about how they work could be useful when I struggle to find the right expertise.
I have had an apprentice in the past too, but it would be good to hear more about the support available to take on apprentices in the future. Also understanding how to retain a diverse workforce would be really useful to know.
