An environmental advocate, a former Mayor and four-legged friends who served in wartime will soon all be honoured through the naming of three locations.

 Following strong community support, Council will change the names of three locations and install signage at each site.

Undercliff Reserve at the southern end of Freshwater Beach will be renamed Irene Crump Reserve to honour the late local, and former Director of Harbord Community Kindergarten, for her contribution to securing public ownership of the reserve and saving it from private development.

As local legend has it, when contractors arrived to develop the site, Ms Crump climbed a large Moreton Bay fig tree and refused to come down in protest against the development. Council will write to the Geographical Names Board of NSW to request the renaming of the reserve.

The sandstone viewing area above South Curl Curl Rockpool on Carrington Parade will be named the Brian Green Lookout, to recognise the contribution of the former Mayor and President of Warringah Council. A lifelong resident of the Northern Beaches, Mr Green served the community in various roles in the former Warringah Shire Council from 1980 to 1995. He played an important role in delivering a range of projects to benefit the community, including the development of the coastal walkway.

Our four-legged friends are also being remembered. The enclosed off-leash dog area at the northern end of Forestville War Memorial Playing Fields will be renamed Purple Poppy Park to recognise and commemorate the sacrifice animals made in wartime. Introduced by the Australia War Animal Memorial Organisation, the purple poppy is worn alongside the traditional red poppy to recognise the service and sacrifice of animals in wartime.  Lest we forget the brave animals who served alongside our diggers.
