Northern Beaches Council has approved $50,000 in environmental grants for projects in 2023/24 aimed at delivering a positive impact on the local environment.
From hands-on creek bank stabilisation works, online solar training, and bush regeneration these worthy grant recipients will deliver direct benefit to our community.
Mayor Sue Heins congratulated the successful applicants and said the funding would help local individuals, community groups and organisations complete very worthwhile initiatives to manage, conserve and protect the northern beaches environment.
“Unfortunately, we were unable to award funding to all the applicants as total grant funding was limited to $50,000 and we received more than $73,000 in requests for funding.
“We have a very committed and active community on the northern beaches dedicated to doing everything they can to preserve our local environment.
“Together our community can do far more to achieve local environmental outcomes than Council can do alone, and that is why these grants are so important. They will have a positive impact on our community and environment.
In the 2023/24 Environmental Grants program, ten projects will receive up to $5000 per project and two will be awarded partial funding for projects beginning in December. All projects are required to be completed by 31 December 2024. See the full list here.
The priority areas for grant funding in 2023/24 included protection of the natural environment, climate change mitigation and adaptation, reduction in resource consumption such as water, energy and waste generation as well as increasing sustainable behaviours in the community.
