From Thursday, the ‘Creative Space’ gallery at North Curl Curl will exhibit 100 brightly-coloured skate decks created by local youth and well-known guest artists Ben Brown, Mitch Revs, Cam Wall, Chris Yee and Andrew Yee for the third annual ‘ARTDECKO’ exhibition.
A highlight of Northern Beaches Council’s Youth Week 2017 celebrations, the ‘ARTDECKO’ exhibition showcases the creative output of young people who took part in the recent ‘ARTDECKO Workshops’ at YOYOs Youth Centre in Frenchs Forest.
Northern Beaches Council’s General Manager Mark Ferguson said the ‘Creative Space’ exhibition provides an excellent professional setting to allow young people’s artworks to be presented to the wider community.
“The ‘Creative Space’ becomes a youth space for the duration of the ‘ARTDECKO’ exhibition, providing a venue where young artists can meet other creative young people who share a common interest in art,” Mr Ferguson said.
Under the guidance of Cam Wall and aerosol artist Sam Maclean, over 100 workshop participants were encouraged to give expression to their own creativity while refining their artistic techniques, each painting their own unique skate deck.
An indoor mini-ramp for free skating and a free trucker cap workshop on Tuesday, 11 April from 10am to 2pm will be part of the week long exhibition.
‘Creative Space’ provides professional development opportunities for emerging and established artists by providing a professional arts facility and studios that enhances cultural participation and creativity on the Northern Beaches.
Located at 105 Abbott Road, North Curl Curl, the ‘ARTDECKO’ exhibition is opened 6 – 13 April, from 10am to 4pm. Admission is free.
