Over a thousand people have had input to develop Council’s draft Better Together Social Sustainability Strategy 2040, which will now go on public exhibition until 27 June, 2021.
Council yesterday agreed that the community will have an opportunity to comment on the draft Better Together 2040 strategy, which aims to create ‘a socially sustainable and inclusive community for all’.
Over two years in the making, Better Together is based on Council’s community engagement activities and feedback on the discussion paper from stakeholder groups and individuals.
Mayor Michael Regan said the community’s social sustainability was as important as its economic health, because it supports individual and collective wellbeing of a community.
“The difference between a place to live and a thriving, wholesome community is the sum of its people and its circumstances,” Mayor Regan said.
“In the Northern Beaches, we are blessed with some awesome circumstances – like location, environment and natural assets. Now we want a plan for making and keeping our area a great place to live, work and visit.
“The Better Together draft provides a roadmap as we grow and change over the next 20 years to ensure the Northern Beaches remains an inclusive and resilient community for all.
“Better Together aims to build on the existing resources, skills and human services in our community. It will make sure we work together to create a stronger, more resilient, equitable and socially sustainable Northern Beaches.
“We want to recognise the First Nations People who are the traditional owners of the land, as well as encouraging a diverse mix of people to live, work and visit here to enrich our lives and build resilience in the community.”
Mayor Regan said Better Together explains what Council will do to make the Northern Beaches a place for everyone, where they are safe, healthy and have a good life for a long time.
“Thanks to the many people who have participated in shaping this strategy, and I encourage others in the community to have their say.”
The draft Better Together 2040 Social Sustainability Strategy is available for public comment on Council’s Have Your Say webpage until 27 June, 2021.
