In a bid to reduce plastic pollution, Northern Beaches Council is reminding the community to bring their own reusable water bottles to the Brookie Show this Saturday.
Mayor Michael Regan said Council will be operating water refill stations for anyone wanting a drink or refill with some of the best drinking water in the world.
“Northern Beaches Council is committed to reducing single use plastics including single use water bottles. Too many end up as litter, making their way into waterways and causing harm to our fragile environment,” Mayor Regan said.
To encourage community involvement, everyone who brings along a reusable water bottle to Council’s Swap This 4 That stall can enter the draw to win a family pass to a night at Taronga Zoo’s Roar and Snore, valued at $1,100.
“Our Waste Minimisation for Functions and Events Policy prevents single use plastics, including bottled water being sold or distributed at any Council event, which is a win for our environment,” Mayor Regan said.
“This year’s Brookie Show promises to be a cracker – with aerial acrobatics, circus shows, fire twirling, amusement rides, show bags, live music, delicious street foods and a 7.45pm firework spectacular.
“There is something for everyone,” Mayor Regan said.
