Northern Beaches Council is moving ahead with the Pittwater Road Conservation Area Review, by beginning a Community Engagement Plan to help shape this heritage area in Manly.
The review helps identify and protect heritage-significant properties from inappropriate development.
Northern Beaches Council Administrator Dick Persson AM said the community had made its views clear about unsympathetic and inappropriate developments.
“This area of Pittwater Road is highly valued by the community as having strong heritage values that need protecting from the wrong sort of development.
“Some of the issues raised include reconsidering the conservation area boundary and a better consideration of the heritage significance of the area.
“The review will also look at whether existing Development Control Plans are appropriate and conform to current best practice.
“The intent of this review is to ensure that all places of heritage significance are protected, sustained, conserved and rejuvenated for the enjoyment and appreciation of the community and provide clarity around developments in the area,” Mr Persson said.
The review aims to provide a more robust consideration of heritage as well potentially identifying additional heritage items worthy of individual listing.
“The next stage will be talking to the community,” Mr Persson said.
Northern Beaches Council has engaged architects to help with the review.
That work will include updating the conservation area inventory list and reviewing boundaries, as well as formulating development controls, guides and procedures.
Community engagement with landholders and other interested stakeholders in the vicinity will start shortly.
