More than $250,000 will be awarded in Community, Arts & Culture and Events Grants for 2019/20, the second year of Northern Beaches Council’s community grants programs.

Council at its meeting yesterday evening approved funding for 34 projects worth $240,000 as part of the Community, Arts & Culture Grants Program. Four applications for events grants and sponsorship funding worth $12,000 as well as $2,057 in fee waivers were also approved.

Mayor Michael Regan said the grants were aimed at promoting enhanced economic, social, community and environmental benefits for the Northern Beaches community.

“The 2019/ 2020 Community, Arts & Culture Grants Program is directed at groups that share Council’s vision of a safe, inclusive and connected community that lives in balance with our extraordinary coastal and bushland environment,” Mayor Regan said.

Successful applicants for Community, Arts & Culture Grants included Community Northern Beaches, Lifeline Northern Beaches, the Burdekin Association (Avalon Youth Hub), La Crème Creative Inc. and the Forest Men’s Kitchen Association.

Events grants were awarded to Narrabeen Lakes Festival Inc for the Narrabeen Lakes Summerfest, the Manly Warringah BMX Club for a new BMX and Mountain Bike festival and Share the Spark for a youth-focussed event, Spark Tank. The Rotary Club of Brookvale received a three-year sponsorship for the Pub 2 Pub Charity Fun Run & Festival.

“The focus is on new and innovative events and other activities that add value and benefits to our local villages and town centres across the Northern Beaches,” Mayor Regan said.

“Of course, we continue to support long-standing events that continue to be very popular and valued by our local community”.
