Northern Beaches’ draft Community Safety Plan will soon go on public exhibition, following ratification by Council.

The five-year blueprint maps out the work Council is undertaking now and into the future, to sustain and increase community safety for all residents of the Northern Beaches.

Mayor Michael Regan said extensive consultation has been undertaken with the community and stakeholder groups on the issue of safety over the past 18 months.

“Safety is fundamental to the liveability of a community. Even though the Northern Beaches is a very safe place to live, the actual and perceived safety of our residents, businesses and visitors continues to be a priority for us,” Cr Regan said.

“Through the development of the draft Community Safety Plan, and the development of the broader Better Together 2040 Social Sustainability Strategy, we are addressing the fundamentals of what makes us safe in public, at home and online.

“There are many factors that influence how safe people feel in a community.

“Improving community safety requires all sections of the community to work together and build partnerships to create a safer environment for people to work, live and play in.

“Community safety is an issue that Council cannot tackle alone.

“We take a joint approach to community safety and crime prevention, working together with a range of people and groups towards creating a safer peninsular.

“We work with the NSW Police Force and other key partners to ensure our community is as safe as possible.

“The Community Safety Plan outlines the work Council is currently undertaking in community safety and our opportunities to do more. The plan sets a framework for our work with partner agencies to ensure that the community has access to people, organisations and information that can help when they need assistance.”

The draft Community Safety Plan will soon be available for public comment on Council’s Have Your Say webpage until 28 June.
