Consolidating the proposed visitor, tradesperson and carer permit into one and extending eligibility for local business owners are some of the changes proposed to go back on exhibition following extensive consultation on the Manly resident parking scheme.
The revised draft framework will be released for further community input for 21 days until 24 November.
The changes clarify the number of permits residents will be eligible for and propose changes to simplify the visitor, tradespersons and carers permits.
Mayor Michael Regan said the revised proposals seek to simplify the system in response to community feedback.
“The fact is, we are working with a legacy scheme that has almost three times the number of permits to available parking spaces, mainly 3,800 on-street parking spaces available but over 11,000 parking permits,” Mayor Regan said.
“Residents and businesses have asked us to work with them to find solutions and following lots of conversations and feedback we have come up with some proposed changes which we would like the broader community to give us feedback on.
“We know trying to find a park in Manly can be very frustrating, especially for those residents who have no access to off-street parking.
“We have people parking streets away from their homes, a particular issue for parents of young children and older people.
“Tightening eligibility, reducing the numbers of permits issued and linking the permits to registered vehicles will help alleviate some of the issues and also crack down on them being sold on the black market.
“We welcome further feedback on the revised framework.”
The amended framework will be specific to Manly and will include:
- Confirmation of eligibility for residents of two permits tied to vehicle registration, regardless of available off street parking. An additional permit, also tied to vehicle registration, will be permitted on application in extenuating circumstances. These permits, with this tighter eligibility, will be trialled and reviewed in three years’ time.
- A proposal to replace the proposed visitor, tradesperson and carer permits with one annual multi-use permit on application. This permit will be reviewed in 12 months.
- Businesses will be eligible for one permit, registered to the business or to the business owner.
