Council is seeking community input on upgrading the sportsfield at Northern Beaches Secondary College - Cromer Campus to enable the use of the grounds outside of school hours.
In a 10-year agreement between Council and the NSW Department of Education the proposal ensures fields can be utilised by the students during school hours and the community on afternoons and weekends.
Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said the LGA has a shortage of sportsfields and this is one ingenuitive way to fix the shortfall in the short term.
“We know there is a shortage of fields as identified in the Northern Beaches Sportsground Strategy 2017 and so this is a win for both the community and the schools with the Council contributing to the upgrade of a field.
“Access to more sportsfields ensures clubs can expand their membership and the community has the opportunity to engage in a healthy active lifestyle to combat social isolation and childhood obesity.
“Last year we upgraded the Freshwater Secondary Campus sportsfield and it now is a success story. It’s a perfect solution and a great outcome for the community.” Mayor Regan said.
As part of the agreement Council will improve the Cromer Sportsfield facilities with the installation of four new light posts for additional evening training and competition opportunities as well as improvements to drainage, irrigation, turf, repositioning of the goal posts, and installing water fountains.
