Northern Beaches Council has adopted a cultural policy that sets out its commitment to fostering the unique culture, heritage, creativity and arts of the Northern Beaches.

The policy was developed after consideration of the community feedback received, Local, State and Federal government strategies as well as the principles of the UNESCO Universal Declaration of Cultural Diversity.

Northern Beaches Council Mayor Michael Regan said the cultural policy embraces an array of values that will underpin Council’s diverse enterprises and operations.

“We want to celebrate diversity in all its forms, support local creativity, foster our community’s innate creativity and arts, and recognise Aboriginal culture as integral to our understanding and belonging to our area.”

“Thriving arts and creativity in diverse and inclusive communities keeps our cultural ecosystem strong, and can often produce ideas and concepts that allow us to meet challenges now and into the future,” Mayor Regan said.

The new policy will operate in conjunction with Council’s Arts and Creativity Strategy Connected through Creativity 2029 which was adopted in October 2019. The strategy is a blueprint for Council to realise its vision of a community enriched through the arts and connected through creativity.

The combined commitments to both the Cultural Policy and Arts and Creativity Strategy will support and grow a vibrant and creative culture that is authentic to the Northern Beaches.
