Northern Beaches Council will conduct community engagement and environmental assessments of two possible beach locations for the feasibility of off-leash dog areas, following endorsement by Council meeting yesterday evening.
The two locations, Palm Beach North and Mona Vale Beach South, were highlighted as two possible locations in a report prepared by Council staff.
Mayor Michael Regan said Council resolved at its meeting in July last year to prepare a report on the feasibility of off-leash arrangements at sections of North Palm Beach and South Mona Vale Beach.
“We are always trying to balance the needs of dog owners and those of others in the community.
“We do want to support more off leash opportunities in the northern end of our local government area as there are not many options for people to take their dogs for a swim.
“Before we decide, it is important that we understand community views as well as do our due diligence to ensure there are no adverse impacts on our environment."
Council will soon put on public exhibition for a month the proposed areas on Palm Beach (North) and Mona Vale Beach (South) and the proposed off leash days and times.
Following assessment of community feedback, a further report will be made to Council summarising findings plus any other assessment reports.
