Council was inundated with photographs of cute and cuddly felines entering this year’s Keeping Cats Safe at Home project.
Although the purr-fect models produced some hilarious and cat-tortionist poses, there is a serious side to the project. Council, in partnership with RSPCA NSW, encourages local cat owners to keep their cats safe at home.
The survival statistics are shocking for cats who like to roam with two in three ‘outdoor’ pets likely to have an accident. Roaming is equally catastrophic for the native species, with cats responsible for the demise of scores of reptiles, birds and mammals every year.
Educating cats owners about responsible ownership, especially the advantages to keeping their cats inside has the bonus of keeping their treasured pet safe while protecting our native fauna.
Council thanks the cat lovers who sent in images of their adorable pets and congratulate the 50 winners.
The lucky winners will receive impressive outdoor cat enclosures.
