A new playground had opened at Freshwater Beach just in time for summer.
Kids of all ages will be delighted with the new accessible playground including a slide, sensory/musical items, monkey bars, swings, spinner, somersault bars, climbing area and nature trail.
The playground has been designed with a fun marine life theme, reflective of the Freshwater beach area.
Northern Beaches Mayor Sue Heins said the long-awaited playground refresh is welcome news for local families and visitors.
“Freshwater Beach is one of the busiest destinations on the Northern Beaches, attracting so many visitors over the summer months,” Mayor Heins said.
“We are rolling out many improvements to Freshwater Beach reserve under the Freshwater Beach Masterplan.
“As well as the playground, we also recently installed new picnic shelters, BBQs, an accessible ramp and stairs, a timber lookout deck with a stunning view of Freshwater Beach, and landscaping improvements.
“These upgrades are not only benefiting the many families living in Freshwater and surrounding suburbs, but all people from across Greater Sydney and further afield who travel to Freshwater to enjoy a day at the beach.”
New shade sails have been installed for sun protection, along with a fence to keep children safe from the often busy roads.
Landscaping improvements include new sandstone seating, grassed areas, softfall surfaces, improved pathways, new BBQs and seating.
The new playground was proudly funded by Northern Beaches Council through over $600,000 in development contributions and the NSW Government through a grant of $450,000 from the Metropolitan Greenspace Program.
Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said the new look for the Freshwater Beach playground has been completed just in time for the summer holidays.
“This new community playground is a great example of councils, such as Northern Beaches Council, working with the NSW Government to provide good quality public space for everyone in the community to enjoy,” Mr Scully said.
“With school holidays just around the corner, these new facilities offer families from Freshwater and across the Northern Beaches a new space to relax and play this summer.”
Under the Freshwater Beach Masterplan, an accessible toilet and shower block is also proposed to be constructed. The new facility would be relocated from the Freshwater Surf Life Saving Club to a dedicated spot at the northern end of the reserve, near the new playground. In addition, the southern playground near the Pilu restaurant will be replaced next financial year.
