Council is seeking interest from suitably qualified and experienced market operators for a temporary pop-up fresh produce market in Freshwater.
Following feedback from the local community via a survey in 2018, residents told us that fresh produce and/or access to groceries was the highest priority for Freshwater.
Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said the proposed markets would be on a Sunday morning and operate at the Oliver Road carpark.
“The local community has spoken and we are listening. Other markets operate on the peninsula and are very successful and a weekly ritual for some.
“The market is aimed to create a vibrant, active public space which brings people together for shopping and entertainment.
“We encourage interested parties to head to our website for more information and apply online.” Mayor Regan said.
The markets will comprise of a mix of produce stalls approved by Council. The prospective applicant will need to be able to demonstrate and:
- Ensure offerings complement and have minimal impact to the existing surrounding businesses.
- Promote the market in conjunction with Council
- Ensure food and hygiene standards are met
- Address waste management issues
- Ensure adequate safety measures are in place
- Facilitate a vibrant active space and atmosphere at the market which provides a positive community experience.
- Ensure smooth bump in, operation and bump out of the market that minimises the impact and inconvenience to users of area, nearby residents and local businesses.
- Ensure there are a wide variety of produce stalls and services that are suitable and align with the needs and interests of the Northern Beaches Community.
- Obtain the necessary insurances and licences.
- Work cooperatively with Northern Beaches Council for the provision and continuous improvement of the market operations.
Council is keen for the market to commence as soon as possible, and anticipates they will start in the first quarter of 2019.
Applications are now open and will need to submitted no later than 2pm on Tuesday 26 February.
