The early winners of Northern Beaches Council’s popular ARTDECKO Exhibition have been announced.

The exhibition, featuring skate deck art by more than 200 young people as well as from professional guest artists, opened at PCYC Northern Beaches in Dee Why on 3 April.

All eyes are now on who will take out the People’s Choice prizes to be announced this Wednesday, 17 April, the final day of the exhibition at the PCYC Northern Beaches from 4pm.

Among the early winners, budding artist Sebastian Middelhartteasdell was delighted after he took home the Emerging Artist Award.

“I’ve had an interest in art since I was about seven years old, so to be recognised for my work is amazing.

“I was happy with my end design, and to be given a series of art pens (as a prize) was great, it will encourage me to keep drawing different designs,” the 13-year-old said.

Another Emerging Artist Award winner was talented youngster Ashleigh Powe.

The student at Manly Selective Campus was elated after her design was given the thumbs up.

“I went into shock when I heard my design won, it took me completely by surprise.

“I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember, I love abstract art,” the 15-year-old said.

Northern Beaches Council Mayor Michael Regan was impressed by the array of entries from the ARTDECKO Exhibition.

“The number of quality entries shows just how many talented artists we have on our doorstep.

“Congratulations to everyone who took part,’’ Mayor Regan said.

The People’s Choice winners (male and female), sponsored by Skater HQ, will be announced on the last day of the Exhibition at the PCYC Northern Beaches on 17 April.
