The hunt is on from Saturday 8 December to find all the miniature public artworks known as Tiny Doors which are located throughout the Northern Beaches!
Tiny Doors is a unique grant-funded public art project drawing on the creativity of local youth aged 12-to-24 years and featuring a series of unique miniature art pieces – styled in the form of tiny doorways and portals – to be placed in public spaces across the Northern Beaches.
Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said the youth-led project has been supported by the Northern Beaches Council Library Service over the past six months.
“Tiny Doors is a large youth engagement project run on the Northern Beaches, involving input from up to 100 young people including some with additional learning needs.
“Groups of young people have been working with professional artists to create, build and install Tiny Doors in a suburb near you. So, keep an eye out for them!” Mayor Regan said.
All the Tiny Doors have been inspired by a door from literature or film, including the Chamber of Secrets Door from the Harry Potter books, the door to Narnia from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and the Tardis door from Doctor Who.
Young people have also had the opportunity to work with Council staff to develop a Tiny Doors website with an interactive map which will also go live on the launch.
A small group of young people with an interest in marketing have also been delivering events and other promotional activities to support the project.
This includes working with a local songwriter Ben Horder of The High Ceilings to compose and record an original song and produce a promotional video.
“Can you find all the Tiny Doors this summer?
“Passports filled with information are available to help you in the hunt.
“They can be picked up from Northern Beaches Libraries at Mona Vale, Dee Why, Warringah Mall, Glen Street, Forestville and Manly.” Mayor Regan said.
They will also be available through the Community Libraries at Avalon, Terrey Hills, Seaforth and Harbord.
