To mark the start of History Week, Northern Beaches Council is pleased to launch History Hub, an online portal which captures, for the first time, the Library’s local history collections in one place.
History Hub features more than 27,000 items including 20,000 historical photographs, 200 oral history recordings, 5000 factsheets, and over 600 maps showcasing the rich history of the Northern Beaches.
Mayor Michael Regan said the Northern Beaches Library's Local Studies Team had put in a tremendous effort to create the site.
“Thanks to their hard work, the history of our community is forever captured for us and future generations to enjoy.
“The website is easy to navigate and anyone can use it to search all sorts of subjects such as historical photographs of all our beaches, land release maps from early 20th century, old theatre tickets and programs to name a few.
“We encourage people to donate to the collection and you can do this by contacting Council’s Local Studies Team.”
To kick off the launch and encourage people to explore the portal, Council’s Library Services is conducting an online scavenger hunt competition featuring an 18-question quiz. The winner gets to select an image from the collection and it will be printed and framed for them.
