Council will install a plaque in Ivanhoe Park, Manly recognising its State Heritage Register listing.
Mayor Regan said the installation of a plaque will be an important way to remind the community of the significance of the Heritage Listing of Ivanhoe Park.
“It symbolises the fascinating history of the park in terms of both its natural and heritage values and its importance today to the community,” Mayor Regan said.
Ivanhoe Park in Manly is Crown Land managed by Council and included within the site is Manly Oval and the Ivanhoe Park Botanic Gardens.
After a number of years of interest and involvement in preserving the Park, the Save Manly Oval Alliance nominated the park for State Heritage listing with Council’s support and was officially acknowledged and listed on the 19 August 2019.
The listing recognises that Ivanhoe Park is of particular significance to New South Wales and enriches the community’s understanding of the state’s history.
The precise spot for the plaque will be finalised in consultation with the Save Manly Oval Alliance and Friends of Ivanhoe Park.
The Heritage listing calls for a Heritage Conservation Plan to be prepared for the Park. A specialised Heritage Consultant will shortly be engaged to prepare the Heritage Conservation Plan for the site.
“I want to thank the community groups for their dedication and efforts in preserving the history of this area and for working with Council resulting in the Park’s heritage listing.”
