World class Australian swimmer, Bobby Hurley has been given a life pass to the Warringah Aquatic Centre.
Northern Beaches resident Bobby, is a former World Record holder in the short-course (25 metre pool) 50 metres Backstroke and 2012 World Champion in the same event.
In 2009 he won a bronze medal as a team member on the 4 × 200 m Freestyle relay at the FINA World Championships in Rome. He has five FINA World Championship medals to his name, two gold, one silver and two bronze.
Bobby is a sprint backstroke and middle and distance freestyle specialist and was an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder 2007-2009.
Northern Beaches Council Administrator, Dick Persson has welcomed the move to give Bobby a life pass. ‘It’s terrific that swimmers of Bobby Hurley’s calibre are training at the Warringah Aquatic Centre,’
‘It demonstrates the high regard in which our centre and the excellent coaching facilities are held. In fact, the Centre’s Head Coach, Tim Lane, left a coaching role at Notre Dame University in the USA to take on the position.’
‘Tim’s appointment has attracted many excellent swimmers to squad training to the Centre. It will be interesting to see the calibre of swimmers the pool produces.’
‘I want to wish Bobby Hurley all the best when he competes in a number of events in coming months, including the World Cup meets in Berlin, Paris, Moscow, Beijing, Singapore, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Dubai and Doha.
Bobby will also swim in the World Short Course Championships in Canada in December,’ Mr Persson said.
The Warringah Aquatic Centre is currently undergoing some exciting renovations, with new landscaping, outdoor fitness equipment and an upgraded cafe to be unveiled later this year.
