Northern Beaches Council has released a new masterplan for community feedback including moving the car park, new terraces overlooking the pool and a major playground upgrade.
A long-term jewel in the crown for the Northern Beaches, the Clontarf masterplan has been developed following extensive community consultation.
Mayor Michael Regan said the vision for Clontarf Reserve is to enhance opportunities for visitors whilst conserving and enhancing natural and cultural heritage of the area.
The key features proposed by the draft masterplan include:
- realigning the car park to the eastern side of the site to create more active open space
- an upgrade of the playground and installation of additional toilets
- sandstone terraces overlooking the tidal pool
- better connectivity and accessibility
- preservation of heritage values
Mayor Regan said now is the opportune time for Clontarf’s charm to be on full display.
“Clontarf has long been a popular venue where families meet to enjoy time together,’’ he said.
“Not only is the area family friendly, it is also boasts breathtaking harbour views and a wonderful history for so many people.
“Some of the infrastructure can be improved and the space isn’t working as well as it could. That’s why we have looked at moving the car park to allow for more open space near the beach and also provide more amenities closer to the playground area.
“I encourage the community to get online and have a look at what is proposed – we’d love to have as much input as possible on the draft plan.”
Council will be hosting two on-site drops for the community to learn more and have a say. Submissions can also be made online.
