Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said he would keep the pressure on the RMS (Roads & Maritime Services) to tackle traffic congestion around Frenchs Forest.

Mayor Regan, together with The Hon Brad Hazzard MP and Jonathan O’Dea MP, met with senior Council managers and the RMS yesterday (Wednesday) to find a solution to the traffic problems being experienced since the RMS made Frenchs Forest Rd one way.

A further meeting of technical staff was held this morning and Council understands the RMS has identified a range or urgent measures it can take, with a follow-up meeting scheduled for next week to examine the effectiveness of the changes.

“The serious disruptions being experienced since the RMS changes on Frenchs Forest Rd are unacceptable and I have made those views very clear to the RMS on behalf of the community.

“Council put forward a number of suggestions to help alleviate the delays and the RMS is now moving to implement a number of improvements as an urgent priority.

“The RMS committed to analyse your feedback and to trial different options, including changed phasing of traffic lights at key intersections and other measures like lane reconfiguration at congestions points.

“Northern Beaches Council will continue to closely monitor the impact of these works and any changes and also ensure that the RMS and its contractors continue to be made aware of any ongoing problems including those raised by residents,” Mayor Regan said.

Motorists impacted by the changed traffic conditions are encouraged to provide feedback to the RMS or the contractor carrying out the works.
