Art is endeavouring to help change the fate of threatened species and habitats on the Northern Beaches with an exquisite new artist book heading to Manly Art Gallery & Museum.

The Natural Collection features original prints from 29 different artists of native flora and fauna, including the gang-gang cockatoo and powerful owl and goes on display from Sunday 16 July.

The Warringah Printmakers' Studio artists worked closely with the Australian Wildlife Conservancy to research the book.

Northern Beaches Council General Manager Planning, Place & Community David Kerr said the event aims to raise awareness of local habitats.

“This unique collaboration reflects Council’s commitment to both protecting our coastal environment and local arts and culture,” Mr Kerr said.

Local Northern Beaches artist Richard Bauhof is one of the exhibiting artists. His print of a redheaded gang-gang cockatoo makes a statement about the importance of habitat.

Mr Bauhof’s work also highlights his concerns over the popularity of drones and their potential impacts on wildlife, particularly noise.

“When I first arrived in Australia from Germany - where the landscape is quite drab - I remember running around wanting to photograph everything I saw.

“We have such incredible diversity here that we need to take care of. It is a very small step from ‘Vulnerable’ to ‘Endangered’ status,” Mr Bauhof said.                                                                                                              

The Natural Collection will be on display in the Manly Art Gallery & Museum foyer from 16 July to 3 September.
