A $400,000 pathway safety upgrade alongside Mona Vale Golf Club has been officially opened.
Northern Beaches Council Administrator Dick Persson AM said the path along the eastern edge of the golf course not only provides safer access but represents a critical link to the iconic coastal walkway project from Palm Beach to Manly.
“Council is pleased to have been able to contribute funding to this significant upgrade, which has removed the crossover between golfers and walkers at its most dangerous point, and provided safe walking access for mums with prams, runners and cyclists.
“This project also provides further benefits as it forms part of and connects to the iconic coastal walkway between Palm Beach and Manly,” Mr Persson said.
The pathway has been separated from the golf course by mounds, screens, bunkers and native plants.
Mona Vale Golf Club General Manager Andy Hugill said the course, especially around the 17th hole, is now much safer.
“This project represents a community asset being used to the fullest by walkers and golfers.
“It has made the golfing experience more enjoyable for our members as well as improving safety for the people who use the pathway,” Mr Hugill said.
The $400,000 project was funded with the assistance of Mona Vale Golf Club and the NSW Government, as well as $196,000 from Council. The walkway is part of the Bicentennial Coastal Walkway.
The pathway was officially opened today by Rob Stokes MP.
