Today Northern Beaches Council opened at North Curl Curl its latest skate park, a passion project for many locals involved in the venture.
Mayor Michael Regan said the local community should feel proud of what it had achieved.
“Right from the beginning, the local school, Curl Curl North Public School, was on board with teachers and students petitioning us to get it going, creating a special facebook group and helping us design it.
“It’s a real tribute to their drive and passion that they got this project off the ground and saw it through to completion.
“It sits neatly in a great community hub including the community nursery, community garden and a well-used community centre. A perfect addition to this public space.”
Before construction began in March, substantial design work had been done by a team of 16 people, including skate industry professionals, local residents, youth skaters, members of the Unicycle club and Council staff.
“It was a perfect example of really positive and enthusiastic community engagement. Thanks to everyone involved.”
The skate park is part of the North Curl Curl Community Centre Masterplan which sets out a long-term framework for improvements to be undertaken to the North Curl Curl Open Space precinct over the coming years.
