A new book The Litter Bug and Lisa the Litter Guard based on an interactive theatre show of the same name is being launched at Cromer Public School as part of Children’s Book Week on Friday 25 August.

 

Northern Beaches Council produced the book and show especially for local schools as part of its ongoing crusade to educate locals and reduce waste on the Northern Beaches.  

 

Northern Beaches Council Administrator Dick Persson AM said Council is committed to working with the community to reduce waste, in particular single-use plastics to protect our sensitive bush and beach habitats.

 

“As the next generation, children often lead the way for environmental change and drive behaviours of their family and wider community.

 

“Council is lobbying state and federal governments and businesses to bring about sustainable change. 

 

“We have also adopted a Single Use Plastics Policy to reduce the procurement of plastics and help the community to live without them as well as our Waste Minimisation at Functions and Events Policy stipulating events on Council land will need to use sustainable alternatives to plastics,” Mr Persson said.  

 

The new book tells the story of a Litter Bug who learns the impact of his choices on animals and our local environment, and how to make a difference.

 

With help from Lisa, children will learn how to be litter guards at school and around the Northern Beaches. The show features lots of audience participation and games and the importance of treasuring our local environment.

 

This project is a NSW EPA Waste Less, Recycle More initiative funded from the waste levy.
