Northern Beaches Council has been recognised at the 2016 Local Government NSW Environment Awards, winning an award for the ‘Sort it Out’ waste management education campaign.
Ben Taylor, Deputy General Manager Northern Beaches Council said it was a testimony to the hard work of Council and its staff to educate the community about waste management.
“Northern Beaches Council is rightly proud to have won the award for Waste Education and Communication for local governments with a population of more than 60,000.
The NSW Environment Awards recognise outstanding achievements by Local Government in managing and protecting the environment.
The ‘Sort it Out’ campaign encouraged the community to reuse or recycle their unwanted goods rather than just rely on what goes into the kerb-side collection.
“It is in everybody’s interest to recycle wherever possible, reuse our precious resources and reduce the amount of waste going into landfills.
“We know the community values waste management very highly. Previous surveys have shown waste management has ranked among the top performing Council services,” Mr Taylor said.
