Don’t miss out on the upcoming heats for this year’s Northern Composure Youth Band Competition which kick off on Friday 15 March in Mona Vale.
Northern Composure is the largest and longest-running youth band competition in the area and offers musicians local exposure as well as invaluable stage experience.
The competition involves three heats, which will be held at locations across the Northern Beaches in March followed by the final being held as part of National Youth Week celebrations in April.
Nikk Carmichael from Continuumusic who is a sponsor and judge of the event says every year the talent gets better and better.
"I've been involved with Northern Composure since its inception as a major prize contributor, judge and the house sound engineer.
“Over all the years it has been running I've seen some amazing talent and heard some of the best original music to come out of the Northern Beaches.
“I've been privileged to watch a great number of these musicians move on to substantial careers in the music industry and it's wonderful to think that Northern Composure played no small part in their success," he said.
Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said the talent pool in this year’s competition is set to be amazing.
“I have on good authority that this year the competition will be fierce and that’s no surprise given the competition has been running for 18 years so it’s cemented itself as one of the regions iconic competitions.
“Good luck to all those participating in this year’s competition, but most of all just have fun. I urge young people to get out to one, or all of the events – and support local, live music.” Mayor Regan said.
Northern Composure competitors are in the running to win a total prize pool of $10,000 which includes a recording package, a live recording of their set, marketing assistance and prize money. There are also lucky door prizes for audience members.
Northern Composure is an all ages, drug and alcohol-free event with security provided. Tickets are $10 at the door.
Northern Composure Band Competition is proudly supported by Northern Beaches Council, the Manly Daily, Continuumusic, Perfect Pitch, Hurley, RAWFM, Mall Music, JAMINAJAR, Rock Salt Sound, Northern Beaches Youth Band and NSW Youth Week.
