Pittwater’s sparsely-populated western foreshore is an incredibly picturesque blend of water and bushland.  

For international artist, Jenny Franklin, who has painted from her studio at Elvina Bay for parts of the past three decades, the region has had a profound effect on her work.

Her pivotal paintings of the area from 1994 – 2016 feature in a special online exhibition, created by Manly Art Gallery & Museum which runs from 23 October to 29 November.

Mayor Michael Regan said it was originally planned to stage the exhibition at MAG&M but it was not possible because of COVID-related travel restrictions.

“We have re-purposed the exhibition in a digital format, making it accessible for a global audience to enjoy.”

Senior Curator Katherine Roberts who collaborated with Jenny to curate the online exhibition said: “Her works on paper and paintings, informed by imaginative notions of biological and primeval beginnings, evoke this unique region.

“Artists drawn to the secluded reaches of Pittwater’s western foreshores develop a special relationship with the natural world that comes from being surrounded by water and bushland.

“The interaction between the natural and cultural landscape infuses their works with its colours and play of light, and with the spirit of place.”
