The Northern Beaches community is being warned to start preparing now for what could be a very active bush fire season.
Mayor Michael Regan said the dry weather of the past few months meant ground conditions were ripe for bushfires.
“Council has been working closely with the Rural Fire Service, as well as other landowners on the Northern Beaches, to prepare for this bush fire season.
“We know how dry it has been and that the authorities are predicting an active bush fire season and that’s why we have increased our preparation.
“That includes hazard reduction burns on 12 Council reserves covering more than 115 ha, along with protection works in another 30 reserves alongside private property and other important assets.
“It is important that our community prepares themselves for what could be a challenging bushfire season by cleaning up around their property and finalising their family’s Bush Fire Survival Plan,” Mayor Regan said.
Council has also started an education program with the distribution of bush fire information brochures in recent Northern Beaches rate notices. Council has also been responding to a number of requests from the community for inspections of nearby bushland which have been undertaken with the support of our local RFS team.
