Northern Beaches Council is thrilled that its Library of Things is up and running. Organised through the not for profit organisation The Sydney Library of Things, the click and collect service will be available for pickups on Saturdays from 9am to 12noon, commencing 23 November at Cromer Community Centre.

Library of Things is based on a membership fee allowing members to borrow as many times as they wish without rental fees. Items range from power tools and gardening equipment to kitchen appliances, camping gear and games.

To celebrate the opening of the Northern Beaches branch, the annual membership fee is reduced to $70 until 31 December 2024. This offer is perfect for those looking to start a new hobby or, tick off practical projects. It’s an ideal Christmas gift for family or friends and make the most of what Library of Things has to offer.

Northern Beaches Mayor Sue Heins said Council is pleased to be involved with such a great initiative.

“Often people find themselves needing for example a whipper snipper, food dehydrator, high pressure cleaner, camp stove or kids reusable party supplies for short periods and the Library of Things enables the community to access these items instead of buying them.

“This volunteer-run operation is a brilliant way to reduce landfill of hardly used items. The Library of Things sees the circular economy in action with unwanted items available for people to borrow when needed.

“While it is only just beginning, our volunteers are busy sorting, cleaning and doing rigorous testing on the large number of items that have been donated already, before, uploading them to the Library of Things website. We are still looking for useful, working items to continue to grow our library.

Membership fee is $85 annually, $50 for 6 months and $30 quarterly. Concession card holders receive a reduced rate of $60 annually, $36 for 6 months and $22 quarterly.
