Northern Beaches Council will trial a range of smart parking systems at five locations to test a range of market leading technologies to determine the best solution for Council and the community.
Smart parking systems, mainly parking sensors, will be located at Pittwater Park carpark, Palm Beach, Park Street Mona Vale, Manly Beach South Steyne, Darley Street carpark in Forestville and the Narrabeen commercial area.
Mayor Michael Regan said Council was committed to managing car parking in a fair and equitable way, taking into consideration the parking needs of local residents, visitors and businesses.
“With smart parking technology, we will have access to more accurate, real-time information about parking demand, turnover, length of stay and availability. The technology will also provide drivers with more real time information about space availability.”
Council will commence an Expression of Interest (EOI) process in November to seek interested Smart Parking technology providers to participate in the 12-month trial, which is expected to begin early in 2020.
Mayor Regan said improved parking turnover in commercial and recreational areas increases trade that benefits the local economy and provides parking opportunities for customers and visitors.
“In high demand recreational areas, such as Manly and Pittwater Park, Palm Beach, parking turnover provides everyone an opportunity to use the space and local amenities.”
