Promising a wonderful range of works by talented local artists, a free curator walk-through and affordable waste-to-art workshops, the Northern Beaches Art Prize has something for everyone.
Northern Beaches Council General Manager Planning, Place & Community David Kerr said the prestigious art prize, formerly the Warringah Art Prize, is a wonderful way to nurture and encourage local artists.
“The 2017 Northern Beaches Art Prize offered a $27,000 prize pool and attracted a huge increase in entries from previous years. It’s great to see arts and culture thriving in our community,” Mr Kerr said.
The Creative Space in North Curl Curl will be hosting two exhibitions for the event each featuring the prize-winning entries from the competition along with over 100 shortlisted works. Opening hours are 10am - 5pm on weekdays; and 10am - 4pm on weekends. Entry is free:
- The General and Small Sculpture categories exhibition runs Friday 11 - Sunday 20 August
- The Waste-to-Art and Youth categories exhibition runs Friday 25 August - Sunday 3 September
For the first time, Council is hosting a free Curator walk-through offering a behind-the-scenes insight into the event and judging processes, as well as the artworks themselves. No bookings are required for the walk-through which will take place on Sunday 13 August, 3 - 4pm.
Council encourages the public to get behind the artists by voting in the People’s Choice Awards. The People’s Choice winners will be announced on the final day of each exhibition: Sunday 20 August for General and Small Sculpture; Sunday 3 September for Waste-to-Art and Youth.
Limited spaces are also on offer for Northern Beaches Art Prize waste-to-art workshops. With separate sessions for kids and adults on Sunday 27 August, attendees can learn how to turn simple household materials into fun art projects.
