Northern Beaches Council is reminding all beachgoers to be COVID-safe this weekend as Sydney is forecast to experience its first bout of heatwave conditions for spring/summer.
Sydney beaches are expected to be busy as the weather is tipped to hit the high 30s on Saturday and Sunday.
Mayor Michael Regan said he wanted people to enjoy the great outdoor spaces in the Northern Beaches, but to be mindful that social distancing health rules are still in effect.
“It’s not quite officially summer, but this weekend will be a test for our plan to keep our beaches and public spaces COVID-free, open and safe for everyone to enjoy,” Cr Regan said.
“It’s up to everyone to do their bit to stay safe, but still enjoy our great outdoor spaces.”
Beach lovers are reminded to follow the following guide to enjoy their time in the sun:
- Check your favourite beach is open and not nearing capacity;
- Avoid crowds - keep a towel’s length (1.5 metres) apart from other beachgoers;
- Stay home if you are unwell;
- Visit outside peak times like earlier in the morning or evenings;
- Come back at different times if the beach is busy;
- Leave the beach after you have had a swim or cooled down;
- Follow the instructions of lifeguards, rangers and police;
- Check the NSW Health website for heat health safety tips.
