The run saw participants compete in either the 10km or 7km course, taking in the picturesque views of Curl Curl, Freshwater and Queenscliff beaches along the way.
If you blinked, you would have missed the winners who crossed the finish line in a staggering 29:33 minutes (Ed Goddard) for the 10km course and 24:31 minutes (Timothy Broxup) for the 7km course. This year several records were broken, personal bests achieved and over $72,000 was raised for charities across Australia.
Mayor Sue Heins, who officially started the race, congratulated the winners and praised all the participants who came out on such a glorious morning.
“It was fantastic to see so many locals and visitors enjoying themselves on one of the most picturesque courses in the country. And it was also great to see Nedd Brockmann running and continuing to inspire others to give events like this a go.
“So many of us on the Northern Beaches love our healthy and active lifestyle. It's one of the many things that makes living here so great.
“Clearly everyone agrees, with record numbers turning out to start the year right and bring a positive vibe to our streets,” Mayor Heins said.
Well-known for his record run across Australia and charity endeavours, Nedd Brockmann was glad to be part of this year’s event.
“It was so great to get out and run with everyone today along a course with such cracking views. Just seeing people active and participating was awesome and the vibe was epic. I’m glad the competitors got to sample my Choccy Milk, my secret to a quick recovery after a big run.”
This year, Sun Run continued to support local businesses while raising much needed funds for charities including Australian Cancer Research Foundation, Run DiPG (a charity dedicated to improving outcomes for those impacted by the deadliest form of childhood cancer) and the Manly Wheelchair Basketball Association.
