As part of Road Safety Week, Council is asking the community to test their knowledge on e-bike safety. 

Northern Beaches Mayor Sue Heins said the recent proliferation of e-bikes has raised some important safety questions.  

“The Northern Beaches is proud to have a large network of shared pathways and cycleways and it’s great to see so many people choosing active transport to get around,” Mayor Heins said.

“With an increase in the number of people using e-bikes and e-scooters, it’s important we consider how best to keep riders, pedestrians and motorists safe.

“If you visit, live or work on the Northern Beaches, we invite you to be take a quick online survey. This will help us understand how much the community understands about bike safety as we look to develop new educational resources.”

The survey tests community knowledge on safety, such as where, when and how fast you can ride a bicycle and e-bike. 

The survey is now online and open until 10am Thursday 19 June 2023. Survey respondents will go in the draw for one of five $100 gift vouchers, to be announced on Monday 19 June. 

Council’s Local Traffic Committee is also currently working with Northern Beaches Police Area Command to audit electric bike, electric scooter, electric rollerblades, electric skateboards and other bike usage, on Northern Beaches shared paths, bike paths, and footpaths.  

The audit is examining how Police and Council rangers can target non-compliance with road rules.
