Northern Beaches Council, Manly MP James Griffin and the Local Area Command are calling on the community to step up the effort to help stop the spread of COVID.

In a proactive step to try and protect the health and safety of the community, one hour parking restrictions will come into effect from tomorrow, Saturday 24 July from 7am until 7pm daily, along the beachfront from Queenscliff to Manly.

This measure is to reduce the risk of people gathering especially at pinch points along the walkways in this heightened COVID environment.

Mayor Michael Regan said Council, along with the Member for Manly, James Griffin and the Local Area Command are united in their ongoing efforts to keep our community safe.

“With active COVID cases rising in our area, this will help reduce the risk of large numbers of people on the walkways. We can’t stress enough, our beaches and open spaces are for exercise only. So once you’ve done, please then get home.

“We know this is tough on everyone and we understand how important it is to get out in the fresh air and exercise but we have to use common sense, if you arrive and find large numbers of people, plan a different time and place to get your exercise in,” said Mayor Regan.

Manly MP James Griffin, says our community wants to do the right thing and get on top of the spread.

“It is so important we all follow the rules and only leave for an essential reason. We love our outdoors in Manly but we must get out, get that fresh air and get back home. And make sure you avoid the risks of gatherings.

“I want to encourage everyone, get the vaccine as soon as you can. You can talk to your GP and get registered now. I know by taking these steps together we will get through this,” said MP James Griffin.

The parking restrictions will be in place until further notice.
