Northern Beaches residents can look forward to coming together across the beaches to celebrate a full schedule of COVID-safe activities to mark Australia Day this year.

With COVID health restrictions easing, Council is preparing a range of activities the whole family can enjoy throughout January.

This includes a Food Truck Party, Australian Made Market, along with two pool parties, an outdoor cinema and roving entertainers.

Council is also proud to host the annual Australia Day Citizenship ceremony to welcome our new Northern Beaches Australians.

While our outdoor breakfasts cannot go ahead on the day, Council encourages everyone in the community to celebrate safely with their family and friends at one of our many activities.

Mayor Michael Regan said it is important that we all come together to celebrate our nationhood, especially after the past month.

“This Australia Day will be special because we have the chance to reflect on how our community united to fight a global crisis, and collectively look forward to the new year with renewed hope,” Cr Regan said.

“Australia Day is both a celebration of our nation and our amazing community spirit that I am so very proud of.”

Council is delighted to welcome the 2021 Australia Day Ambassador to the Beaches, dual Winter Olympian, Hannah Campbell-Pegg.

Ms Campbell-Pegg represented Australia in the Women’s Single Luge at the Torino 2006 Winter Olympic Games and Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games and she will be visiting some of our event sites on Australia Day.

Mayor Regan says now more than ever we need to come together and connect with our fellow Australians.

“COVID may have changed the way we live and work, but by creating safe events we can still connect with each other and celebrate the stories of each other and our nation.”
