The Tramshed Arts & Community Centre at Narrabeen has now received its tram.
Northern Beaches Council Deputy General Manager Ben Taylor said the Tramshed is one of Council’s most popular community centres with more than 65 community groups using it on a regular basis.
“The upgrade work includes improving accessibility and making the facility more user-friendly and relevant in a modern world,” Mr Taylor said.
The tram was purchased from the Sydney Tramway Museum and refurbished at Council’s Cromer Depot with the valuable assistance of the Forest Men’s Shed.
A crane delivered the restored tram this week in a delicate overnight operation.
“The inclusion of the tram will generate interest in local history and connect the community with the heritage of the local area.
“With the new B-Line and associated car park coming, as well as the cafĂ© in the Tramshed and playground facilities next door, the Tramshed will again be a drawcard for Narrabeen,” he said.
Work on the Tramshed is due to be completed by June, weather permitting.
