Northern Beaches Council Mayor Michel Regan has paid tribute to former Pittwater Council Mayor Lynne Czinner who passed away at the weekend.
“My sincere condolences go out to Lynne’s family, friends and extended networks in the Northern Beaches community who she was passionate for and worked tirelessly in her service on council,” Cr Regan said.
“I am deeply saddened by Lynne’s passing. The community is a better place for her work and commitment to improving life for people on the Northern Beaches.”
Lynne distinguished herself by her commitment to protecting the natural environment and lifestyle, promoting ecologically sustainable development in Pittwater, and providing walking and bike paths as well as recreational facilities for all ages. She was also Director of North Sydney Waste Board, Secretary of Sydney Coastal Council and represented Pittwater on the Kimbriki Committee.
Lynne was elected on to the first Pittwater Council in October 1992 representing South Ward, serving consecutive terms until 2008. Lynne served as Deputy Mayor to former Mayor Patricia Giles for four consecutive terms, from 1998 to 2002 and was herself voted Mayor in 2004.
“Lynne was a passionate advocate for independent politics at local government level. While we had different views on the best model of local government, Lynne was also respectful and good-humoured about diverging points of view.
“Lynne will be sorely missed by the community”
