What better way to celebrate Australia Day than go to one of the many Council run events across the region.
This year has a great line up from Manly to Newport - so there is something for everyone.
Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said he is pleased to be celebrating all things we love about Australia.
“Australia Day is one of the biggest days on the national calendar. The day is not only to reflect on what it means to be Australian, but to celebrate everything great about this beautiful country of ours and acknowledge our history.
“Our line-up of events throughout the day means there is something for all ages. Remember to slip, slop slap and have a great day” he said.
This year Northern Beaches Council welcomes Australia Day Ambassador, Nic Newling. Nic is one of Australia’s leading mental health advocates and will speak at the Australia Day events at Dee Why and Newport.
In addition to our usual Alcohol Free Zones, there will be a temporary 24 hour Alcohol Prohibited Area on all sand areas of beaches as well as the adjacent reserves within the Northern Beaches Local Government Area from 6am on Australia Day (26 January 2019) to 6:00am on 27 January 2019, including East Esplanade, Manly and Shelly Beach.

Dee Why Road Closures
Road Closures will be in place from 12 noon, Friday 25 January to 4pm, Saturday 26 January:
• The Strand between Dee Why Parade to Oaks Avenue
• Howard Avenue between Clyde Road to The Strand
Special Event Clearway will be in place from 12 noon, Friday 25 January to 4pm, Saturday 26 January at The Strand between Dee Why Parade and Oaks Avenue.
Vehicles left in special event clearways will be towed and a fee will apply.
Residents with photo ID showing an address in the street can access Howard Avenue via Clyde Road.
Australia Day Awards Ceremony
This will be held on Thursday 24 January to acknowledge the achievement of local heroes. The Awards Ceremony is by invitation only.
Glen Street Theatre
Will host a citizenship ceremony to welcome our newest citizens to the Northern Beaches. The citizenship ceremony is by invitation only.
