Budding scriptwriters from local high schools will have their moment in the spotlight when young actors take to the stage to bring their words to life.

As part of Youth Week, the Young Scriptwriters Performance Night will be held 6.30pm on Monday 11 April at Glen St Theatre.

Finalists in the Northern Beaches Council Young Scriptwriters Competition will watch their plays performed by actors from local drama school Point Break Drama, directed by Australian actor Paul Winchester.

Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said Council was proud to support emerging writers.

“I am continually amazed at the creative talent of so many young people in our community,” Mayor Regan said.

“The Young Scriptwriters Competition provides these young creatives with the opportunity to hone their writing skills and witness their scripts being performed on stage. For the audience, it’s a moment to experience fresh, new plays from creative young minds – and there may well be a future scriptwriter or playwright in the mix.”

The audience will be invited to cast their vote for their favourite play exploring the theme of ‘human interaction’.

Scripts to be performed include:

• Grandpa’s Confusion written by Kayla Gray
• The Date written by Joel Davies-Sparks
• Talk to Me written by Zara Perry
• Believe Me written by Isla Hook
• Sisters written by Samantha Winter
• Buckshot written by Finley Hill

In the lead up to the performance night, each finalist workshopped with director Paul Winchester to refine and develop their script.

The Young Scriptwriters Competition was open to students from Year 7 to 12 who live or go to school on the Northern Beaches. Entrants were required to write an original 10-minute play for one or two actors to perform.

Doors open 6.15pm for a 6.30pm start. Ticket price includes popcorn and a slushie.
